Nestled along the banks of Gore Creek in the heart of Vail, Colorado, The Gore Creek Townhouse is a complete reimagination of a beloved mountain residence with decades of family history. Having spent winters in Vail for more than forty years, the owners envisioned transforming an older townhouse into a warm, welcoming retreat that celebrates family traditions while embracing a fresh, vibrant personality. Every design decision was guided by a simple goal: create a home that feels inviting, joyful, and unmistakably connected to its mountain setting.
Working within the existing footprint, 159 Architecture & Design thoughtfully reconfigured the residence to maximize livability while opening the home to its spectacular surroundings. Every window frames a unique perspective of Gore Creek, the surrounding mountains, and the forest canopy, reinforcing a constant connection to nature throughout the home. The comprehensive renovation introduced layered natural materials, refined architectural detailing, and expanded gathering spaces that support both intimate family moments and larger celebrations. White oak millwork reclaimed timber beams, soft plaster finishes, and abundant natural light establish a timeless architectural backdrop rooted in the character of Vail.
In collaboration with interior designer Lizzie Mead, the residence embraces a colorful, spirited aesthetic inspired by alpine living. Rich textiles, botanical wallpapers, custom millwork, patterned furnishings, and carefully curated artwork create interiors that feel both sophisticated and deeply personal. A vibrant red bunk room, welcoming kitchen, and thoughtfully layered living spaces introduce warmth, texture, and personality throughout the home, giving each room its own memorable identity while remaining connected to the overall architectural vision.
